I will say the the little fellow from India was patient.... because I was
and grumpy... *are there any just grumpy emoties out there?* If I'd a video phone I probably would have
him by the end, but did follow instructions and reset and update my router... so at least the downstairs computer works... I haven't checked mine upstairs or Darling Son's Mac yet... It would have gone better if he hadn't kept talking to me like I was an idiot... I'm a lot of things, but idiot is not one of them...

Have I ever mentioned that if you feel you are not getting help or are being talked down to that you should say something on the call, not necessarily for the person you are talking to, but those that are listening to said call. Keep in mind that it may be days later, but all these calls are monitored by someone somewhere. For a while, I had the pleasant duty of being one of those people. Anyway, when a customer says something like why are you treating me like an idiot, it sets off more red flags than any amount of screaming and hollering do...

I always figured that they had to assume their caller had no knowledge of anything so that they wouldn't miss a step. I always hate the ones, when I tell them, I've already done this, that, and the other thing; then they tell me to do this that and the other thing. And no, doing it again because they are on the other end of the phone doesn't make it miraculously work...
Screaming and hollering only makes them not want to help you all that much more.
I hope it is all straightened out for you now, zolabee!

I so dread having to deal with tech support people because, 1. I can't understand them and have to keep saying "What did you say?" until I could tear all my hair out, and 2. they don't answer my question if it departs from the "script" they are using, so then they just seem to pick a response that comes from outer space and I'm there going, "What does that have to do with the price of eggs?" I usually get so mad I have to get off the phone instead of screaming and yelling - because I know that doesn't do any good and also because it's not the person's fault that the companies are cutting costs by not training them properly.

My team was different. We were geeks first. They had to create a special category for us because we were better than tier 2, but did not have access to the hardware like tier 3. They spent a year trying to figure out how to classify us and finally decided on tier 2.5... You know, sometimes they tended to over think things...<g>

First thing he asked me was did I turn the modem off and then back on... he asked me that 3 times.... I said yes 3 times and finally got sick of that and said let's start over... then asked he multiple times "is this what I'm supposed to do and this little blue cable is it supposed to..." and finally "does this make sense to you... you understand what I'm telling you?" If I'd had access to the internet I would have come here or Simbology's Ask the Geek...

If you have a router it would be listed on it's status page.

It was such poetic justice.
I'm big into reaping what you sow as it seemed so appropriate.
